The fundamentals always apply

Although there is incredible scientific interest in all thing small, investors have been slow to climb on board the nanotechnology bandwagon. Interest is rising, but entrepreneurs do not invest in science projects that claim to have "huge" potential but face an uncertain path. To attract funding for a nanotechnology venture you have to be able to answer basic questions that apply to all hi-tech products.
• What product are you going to make?
• Who will buy it?
• Why will they buy it?
• What alternatives will they evaluate?
• How much will they pay for it?
• How do they justify the cost of your product?
• How will they know about it?
• Where will they buy it?
• Is your idea/technology protectable through patents, copyrights or trade secrets?
• How long until you start selling something?
• How much money will you need?
• Can you identify all the risks and things that can go wrong?
• Who will run the business?
