A chance alignment of a quasar and a distant galaxy has enabled spectroscopic measurements to be made of the galaxy's chemical composition. Some 25 elements have been discovered, including the heavy elements tin (Sn) and lead (Pb). Their approximate abundances are given by the circles. Surprisingly, the chemical spectrum of this ancient galaxy is similar to that of the Sun (dotted line).
