The taste test
The taste-sensing system essentially consists of a number of taste sensors, each containing an artificial lipid membrane with a different electrical response. Taste substances cause the electric potential of the membranes to change, as recorded by an electrode. The output signals from the different sensors can be analysed to identify the taste.
