Merging Galaxies
Two spiral galaxies, each with a massive black hole at the centre, are shown in the early stages of a merger. Hundreds of millions of years after the galaxies merge, the black holes at the centres will eventually come together and merge as well (photo credit: Librero/ Coburn, NASA).
